First trip to India

What first-time visitors usually wish they knew earlier.

India is rewarding partly because it is intense, layered and different. A little local context before you arrive can make the first few days much easier.

Plan the first 24 hours carefully

Know how you are leaving the airport, where you are staying, how you will connect to mobile data and whom you can contact if something changes.

Do not confuse confidence with certainty

Not every unsolicited offer is a scam, but you do not need to make decisions under pressure. When in doubt, verify with your hotel, an official channel or someone you trust locally.

Build familiarity before arrival

A short conversation about your itinerary, neighbourhoods, transport and the way everyday things work can remove a surprising amount of uncertainty.

Remember that India is not one experience

Delhi NCR, Hyderabad and Bengaluru differ enormously in pace, transport, food, weather and social norms. Local context matters.
